The Infant & Toddler Connection of Goochland-Powhatan

Parent-Infant Education Program

 All parents want their children to have the best chances in life.

Infants and toddlers develop and change so quickly, that every day really does count.  The Parent-Infant Education Program provides family-centered, educational and therapeutic services to infants and toddlers who have developmental delays or who are at risk for developmental delays. Early intervention supports and services help parents and caregivers find ways to encourage the child’s development and to increase the child's participation in family and community activities. These supports and services are available for all eligible children and their families regardless of the family's ability to pay.

Text Box: Early intervention services can dramatically improve a child’s long-term abilities and skills.

The Parent-Infant Education Program

 How Children Are Served

Any child, birth to 36 months, who lives in Goochland or Powhatan Counties is eligible to receive a free developmental screening.

 If needed, your child may be eligible for:

bullet

A developmental assessment conducted by a team of licensed educators, physical therapists, occupational therapists and/or speech/language pathologists;

bullet

Services provided in the home, daycare center or other natural environment;

bullet

Parent resource library and support services to families;

bullet

Toy lending library;

bullet

Information and connection to other resources available within the community;

bullet

Transition support to other services by age 3.

Children may receive Intervention services under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

A child’s eligibility for Intervention services (Part C) is determined by a developmental assessment.  An Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) developed jointly by the family and service providers outlines the services necessary to help the family achieve the goals that they have established for their child.  Some of the services offered include education, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech/language therapy.

Monitor services are also provided, free of charge, to those children who are “at risk” for developmental delays.  Services may include periodic developmental screenings, parent education, information/linkage to community resources.

If you have questions about your child’s development, or would like to learn more about our services, please contact:
