EMERGENCY SERVICES

Welcome to the Web Page for Emergency Services provided by Goochland-Powhatan Community Services.  If you are seeking help for someone who resides in Goochland or Powhatan County, or you are contacting us about a situation occurring in either of these counties, we are here to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week at these numbers.

(804) 556-3716 or (804) 598-2697

If the need for services exists in another locality, you will receive a faster response by contacting the emergency number for the community services board serving that area.

Click here for links to other Community Services Boards:  http://www.vacsb.org/.  Once you are on this website, select the "About CSB/BHA" tab and then choose "CSB/BHA Directory" for a current Community Service Board listing.

 WHAT WE OFFER:

Immediate Services - Crisis intervention and assessment for hospitalization are available 24 hours a day for persons experiencing psychiatric crisis or at risk of needing hospitalization.

bullet

In situations judged to be dangerous, you should always contact the Sheriff’s Department first (Dial 911)

bullet

If someone is injured or seriously ill, seek medical attention before calling us

bullet

Many emergency situations can be handled much more efficiently when calls are received during GPCS’s normal operating hours (8:30 to 4:30, Mon. – Fri.).  When we respond to calls after-hours, we have fewer options to offer you.

When needed, immediate face-to-face assessments will occur at our offices in Goochland and Powhatan during operating hours.  After-hours assessments are done at the Sheriff’s Departments.

Requests for Services – Emergency Services is also the “front door” for other mental health and substance abuse services.  Non-emergency requests for services are accepted by telephone or on a walk-in basis during operating hours at the Goochland (556-5400) and Powhatan (598-2200) offices.

bullet

A brief assessment will be conducted, requiring 20-30 minutes

bullet

Assessments are carried out by highly trained clinicians.  If the situation is determined to be an emergency, a face-to-face session will be scheduled, usually the same day

bullet

Parents or legal guardians may request services for children.  Other requests must be made by the person in need of services.  Children do not have to have parental permission to request services

bullet

Subsequent treatment sessions may be with a therapist other than the clinician conducting the assessment

Information and Referral – Emergency Services staff are happy to respond to questions regarding mental health and substance abuse issues, and the services we can provide.  A searchable database for information can also be found at: www.mentalhealth.samhsa.gov.  Persons seeking treatment elsewhere can request referrals from Emergency Services or go to a listing at www.yourunitedway.org.  Those with insurance coverage may wish to request a list of participating providers from their insurance carrier.
